This print comes from the 1959 German portfolio, Friedan Der Welt, or Peace For the World. The portfolio consisted of 48 loose black & white and color prints (11 ¾” x 15 ½”), reproducing artworks exhibited at the International Book Arts Exhibition in Dresden in 1959. The prints were numbered 1-48 on the versos, and each print also has the title of the artwork printed on the verso. This print is number 23. The portfolio Included Picasso’s portrait of Frederick Joliot-Curie, and graphic works by Frans Masereel, William Gropper, Makoto Ueno and others. Most of the prints are relief halftone lithographs, very finely printed.
